Year 9 Trip to the Royal Gunpowder Mills

October 4, 2024/0 Comments/in General News, Uncategorized/by David Pearce

Year 9 Trip to the Royal Gunpowder Mills

We had a packed day at the Gunpowder Mills with a presentation from an actor who told us lots of information about being in the blitz and what it was like for people living through the war.

We were drilled like soldiers around part of the site and had to step in time.  We went to see a real Anderson shelter and experienced real sounds of what would have been heard by the people who had to use one.

We saw lots of missile shells as the Mills were a place of manufacturing them.

Year 8 Outdoor Learning

In Outdoor Learning Year 8 Sky have been working on learning different team games. They had to work together to keep the parachute up and also to keep the circle together whilst moving the hoop around the group without letting go of each other’s hands.

Year 10 Community Group

Year 10 Community Group

We have officially signed up to do a community litter pick on the 26th of September through the organisation called Million Mile Clean-up. The litter pick will take place in the woods behind The Valley School Periods 2, 3 and 4.

In preparation for the task we have been discussing health and safety, equipment, environmental impact and a site survey to include a tally of items found. This information along with photos will be shared, if appropriate, with the organisation to promote the effort that the students are making towards the local community.

Year 7 Trip to London

On Wednesday the Year 7 staff took all the Year 7 students on a trip to London.  This was a fantastic end to the term’s unit of work.

The students had a wonderful time.  Below are a few of their quotes:

Ruby: I was scared at first about the London Eye, but I faced my fears and did it.

Jessica: The London Eye was fun.

Lily: I enjoyed the boat and the man talking about history.

Jayden: I liked being on the River Thames and waving at people on the bridges.

Year 8 Lime Design & Technology

During one of our lessons this week we went into the woods with Year 8 Lime to put up the bird boxes, bat boxes and bee houses that they made. The students loved finding trees to place their homes on.

Drop Everything and Read

We had our second DEAR event on Wednesday afternoon.  The staff and students took the opportunity to pick up their favourite books or magazines and spent a quiet twenty minutes reading.

Thank you Mrs Pomeroy for organising the event.

Olympic Sports Day

July 10, 2024/0 Comments/in General News, Uncategorized/by David Pearce

Olympic Sports Day

A huge congratulations and thank you to all the students and staff that contributed to a fantastic day of Sport yesterday. As mentioned in assembly today, performance is just a small part of what it takes to be an outstanding sports person. Teamwork and enjoyment for sport are two areas we as a PE Department strive for all our students to possess and a number of individual rewards were handed out in assembly to reflect this.

The event was however, designed as a team competition and below is a breakdown of the results per year group followed by an overall scorecard with all year groups combined. A huge congratulations to our overall winners, Team Rehm (Green).
