The Dell is a nurture group which runs across both Key stages 3 and 4 for those students who are having difficulties learning and adjusting to the main body of the school due to their individual needs.
We focus on social skills within our learning environment to give the opportunity for our students to progress further in their social surroundings. We actively encourage this by regularly visiting our local community.
In Key stage 3 we follow a primary model. The students stay with their form tutor for most lessons and go to specialist teachers for DT, Art, Performing Arts, PE and ICT. In class our learning takes a practical form ensuring that everyone can access the curriculum. We have lots of fun in our lessons!
The students in Key stage 4 also have opportunities to join their peers in lessons such as Enterprise and PE so as to participate in the wider life of the school.
The curriculum is tailored to suit their learning styles and to ensure that they make progress and are fulfilled in their learning.
On a Thursday, Yr11 students in the Dell attend a link course at North Herts College which forms a transition between the Valley School and College. This is key to help them move on in their education when they leave The Valley School.
