Masonic Charity Fishing Day

May 12, 2025/0 Comments/in General News, Uncategorized/by David Pearce

Masonic Charity Fishing Day

On Wednesday, a small group of our students were invited to Westmill Farm, Three Lakes, to take part in a Masonic Charity Fishing Day. Each student was paired with a fisherman who showed them how to fish. All the fisherman and organisers commented on how well the students behaved and how they followed instructions perfectly. Everyone caught multiple fish and did exceptionally well. They were all awarded with certificates and medals for their achievements. Congratulations to Amy Pateman who caught the most fish, 57 in total! It was a very enjoyable day.

Key stage 4 Football competition – 29th April

Key stage 4 Football competition – 29th April

The final KS4 football competition of the academic year took place on Tuesday 29th April, with The Valley School proudly hosting and organising the event. Five teams participated, including two representing The Valley.

It was a closely contested tournament, with just one point separating the top three teams. Pinewood emerged as champions, while The Valley and Brandles finished in joint second place. The competition remained wide open until the final whistle, with The Valley needing a win in their last game to secure first place — a result that narrowly slipped away.

The event was played in great spirits under sunny skies, rounding off the KS4 season with an exciting morning of football.

Peach take a trip to Pizza Express

It was Peach class’s turn to visit Pizza Express on Tuesday. Students enjoyed making their own pizzas using some skills taught in their Food Technology lessons.

Everyone had a lovely time!

RRSA Update

May 12, 2025/0 Comments/in General News, Uncategorized/by David Pearce

RRSA Update

The RRSA Steering group met last week to decide which Rights they wanted the school to learn about this half term. There are 42 Articles in the UN Convention of Children’s Rights, and all are equally important, so it is always a challenge to decide which ones we will focus on, but eventually we chose:

Article 2: No Discrimination – All children have all these rights, and no child should be treated unfairly for any reason

and Article 3: Best Interests of the Child – When adults make decisions, they should always do what is best for the child.

The members of the steering group, led by Ms. Flynn, are going to teach the school about Articles 2 and 3 in an assembly on 16th May.

The other exciting decision by the steering group, was to create a Rights Respecting Charter for the school, which will reflect our 3 school rules: Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Ready to Learn. The purpose of the charter will be to show how Children’s Rights dovetail with our key school values and identify how both Duty Bearers (the adults) and Rights Holders (the children and young people) will uphold our school values through Children’s Rights. The steering group are going to work on the charter over the next few weeks so that we can present it to the school after half term. We are looking forward to sharing it with you in a few newsletters’ time!

Finally, we are very proud of the students on the steering group – Sienna, Destiny, Dylan, Katelyn, Rubie, Helen, Jack, Alfie, and Callum. They are so enthusiastic about promoting Children’s Rights across the school community and have contributed some wonderful ideas in the meetings. Thank you to you all for all your hard work!

VE Day

VE Day

Gold Class observed the 2-minute silence whilst watching the King arrive at Westminster Abbey for the Commemorative Service. After recalling and reviewing our learning about World War II, the students tucked into jam sandwiches, summer fruit and madeira cake while listening to the tales of celebrations people had enjoyed on the day 80 years ago – including hearing about a celebration jelly made without any flavouring or sugar, which didn’t sound as tasty as our cake!

Year 10 BTEC Art

Year 10 BTEC Art

Students created these beautiful cityscapes reflecting in water.

The students painted their backgrounds and then used block printing techniques to create their city skyline.

Block printing is a printmaking technique where the students carved a design into a styrofoam tile and then pressed the tile onto their background surface to create an impression.

Seussical the Musical

March 19, 2025/0 Comments/in General News, Uncategorized/by David Pearce

Seussical the Musical

Rehearsals are continuing for our show, Seussical (Kids). This is a fantastic, colourful romp through many of the Dr Seuss stories. The characters include The Cat in the Hat, Horton, Mayzie le Bird and The Wickershams. Students in KS3 have started learning the songs in their Performing Arts lessons. The principals have been rehearsing at lunchtimes and are already doing a fantastic job.

All the songs are accessible through the student area of our school cloud. (Students can search for Microsoft 360 and then sign in with their school account.) The performances will be on Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th June at 6.00pm.  Do put these dates in your diaries, there will be lots more Seussical news in the coming weeks.

KS4 Football Competition at The Valley School –12th March

The Valley School proudly hosted Wednesday’s KS4 Football Competition, welcoming six teams for an exciting day of competitive football. With each tournament, the standard continues to rise and this was no exception—every team showcased impressive skill, teamwork, and determination, making for a fantastic spectacle.

Brandles emerged as the champions with a commanding performance, but The Valley School had plenty to celebrate as well. Our first team secured an impressive third place, improving on our fourth place finish last time, while our second team gave their all and finished sixth, gaining valuable experience along the way.

One of the biggest highlights of the day was the incredible display of fair play and sportsmanship. Players from all schools showed respect for one another, competing with passion while maintaining the spirit of the game.

A huge thank you to all the teams who took part and to everyone who helped organize and run the event; it was a fantastic day of football. Congratulations to Brandles on their victory and to all our players for their commitment, effort, and continued progress. We look forward to the next tournament, where the standard is sure to rise once again!
