KS4 Boccia Competition

January 9, 2025/0 Comments/in General News, Uncategorized/by David Pearce

KS4 Boccia Competition at Garston Manor School – January 8th

The KS4 Boccia Competition at Garston Manor School on January 8th was a fantastic showcase of skill, strategy, and teamwork! Six teams from different schools participated in the event, competing in an engaging league format that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.

The Valley School had an outstanding day, demonstrating focus and determination throughout the competition. Tied at the top of the standings with another strong team, we secured the top spot thanks to a crucial head-to-head advantage—a testament to our students’ excellent performance under pressure.

The event wasn’t just about winning; it was also a celebration of inclusivity and the spirit of fair play. Players from all schools displayed remarkable sportsmanship, supporting one another and forging new friendships along the way.

A big thank you to Garston Manor School for hosting such a well-organized and inspiring event. Congratulations to The Valley team for their incredible achievement—you’ve made us proud once again!

Golf at The Valley – A fantastic donation from Richard and Alyson

Golf at The Valley – A fantastic donation from Richard and Alyson

Mr Holop has been instrumental in introducing the sport of golf into The Valley School.  He has fostered a relationship with Richard Hale and Alyson Nedza who have kindly donated a tremendous amount of golfing equipment to the school.  Alyson’s son is an ex-student who is now working successfully for the local council.

We are so appreciative of the equipment and Dylan from year 10 is very excited about testing it all out over the next few days and weeks.

Year 7 students host Spectre from the Kaotic Angels

Today, as part of our Enrichment activities, Maroon had a visit from Spectre of the Kaotic Angels LEMC (Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club). He spoke to us about the work he and his club do to support and help the local community, from providing food to helping Santa deliver gifts to underprivileged children. His visit coincided with National Role Model month that Mr Hugo told us about last week in assembly. We also talked about our PSHE themes of tackling stereotypes and discrimination. Each student was gifted a special ‘chip coin’ as a souvenir.

Outdoor Learning

During Year 9 Outdoor Learning the students worked together to construct a model frame of a shelter.  They demonstrated excellent communication skills and cooperated well as they built the structure.

Year 10 Community Group

The wonderful Year 10 Community Group wanted to do a good deed today and return a trolly found in front of the school to Marks and Spencers. We were able to walk the trolley and even met the two store managers, Lee and Debbie who were very appreciative of our kindness. Well done Year 10 community group!

Year 9 Be the Band Workshops

Year 9 started their sessions with Be the Band this week. They enjoyed playing different instruments through keyboards and drum pads to create their own version of pop songs. These workshops have been offered to us, fully funded, which is wonderful and will form part of the students’ Arts Award Explore.

KS3 Football Competition

KS3 Football Competition

On November 11th, The Valley School hosted an exciting KS3 Football Competition, welcoming students from four local schools for a fantastic morning of football, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The event saw each team put in their best effort, cheered on by enthusiastic supporters, making it a memorable day for everyone involved.

Congratulations to Pinewood School, who played outstandingly and clinched the top spot! The Valley School entered two teams and gave their all on the field, finishing in 4th and 6th place. While the win may not have been ours this time, we’re proud of our players for their resilience and determination throughout the games. It was a day filled with skilful plays, camaraderie, and team spirit.

A special thanks to our kit sponsor, CBM Cleaning Services, for their support. The players looked fantastic in their new kits, which added a professional touch to the day.

Thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and participated in making this event a success. We look forward to the next opportunity to compete and grow as a team. Go, Valley!

Year 8 Jailbreak Café Visit

October 10, 2024/0 Comments/in General News, Uncategorized/by David Pearce

Year 8 Jailbreak Café Visit

This week each year 8 class went to the Jailbreak Café and had a fantastic time. They all ordered their own drink and sweet treat and then went to the police station cells to eat and enjoy our surroundings. We were able to see what it would have been like to be a prisoner and even saw the original metal toilets used by prisoners and now the public too. The favourite part was using the props to have a photo and be ‘checked in’ as prisoners.  Well done all of Year 8!

Year 10 Library Visit

October 10, 2024/0 Comments/in General News, Uncategorized/by David Pearce

Year 10 Library Visit

Year 10 visited the Stevenage Library on Thursday to celebrate National Libraries Week. The theme of this year is ‘Going Green’. Students all made a pledge to carry out a small task to be more sustainable such as switching off lights or turning the heating down. While there, they had to opportunity to read books, listen to a member of staff read a book and create leaves and blossom out of old books.

National Carrot Day and National Poetry Day

October 4, 2024/0 Comments/in General News, Uncategorized/by David Pearce

National Carrot Day and National Poetry Day

On Thursday the students very much enjoyed the fact that it was National Carrot Day, and had great fun including Kevin the Carrot in many of their lessons.  The general consensus was that he always participated with a smile on his face, but struggled to join in when answering questions or with group discussions!

To recognise the National Poetry Day Mr Wharton discovered the following poem about a carrot by Ibsen.

Beneath the earth, in soil so deep,
A carrot grows, in quiet sleep.
Orange and bright, with leafy crown,
It stretches up, but stays underground.

Crunchy and sweet, a humble delight,
It hides in shadows, out of sight.
But pull it up, and you will see,
A treasure buried, just for me!
