Year 7 Literacy
Sharing Written Work
This week the Year 7 students worked really hard on their written work. They then took great pleasure in sharing their wonderful literary masterpieces with the rest of the class.

What YOU will do:
Report your child’s absence to the school office. Try to telephone or email by 9am.
Tell the school in advance of any medical or dental appointments, using the Leave of Absence form that is on the school website. A hard copy can be obtained from the main office.
Check the NHS guidance if you are unsure whether your child is well enough to be in school. The guidance is clear that it is fine to send them in with a minor cough or cold, provided they don’t have a temperature.
Have a backup plan if your child misses transport.
What WE will do:
Check your child’s attendance every day.
Phone home to discuss your child’s attendance with you.
Our Family Engagement and Therapies Lead will work with you to offer support or guidance.
Invite you into school for attendance meetings if we are concerned.
Working together to improve attendance
We understand that attending school can be tricky sometimes. We want to work with your child and you to ensure they feel confident to come to school.
If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance the talk to as a first step so that we can work together to help.
If you need to ask for absence during term time for exceptional circumstances please submit the Leave of Absence form that is on the school website or available from the main office.
For these reasons we have decided to allow students to attend school in P.E. kit on the days they have P.E.
Plain black shorts or tracksuit trousers. White polo shirt and black hoodless sweatshirt.
We are avoiding hooded tops to `ensure the hoods aren’t used as handles to pull each other backwards, and also to stop students putting up their hoods preventing them from being identified from a distance.
The table below shows when your child has P.E.
Please ensure they come in to school wearing it on the appropriate days.

The Year 11 Duke of Edinburgh group encouraged staff and students to dress up for Halloween to support our local food bank (Food Shed). They were extremely pleased with their efforts as the group were able to make a substantial donation of produce.
On the 10th of October I had the privilege of attending the Herts Arts concert which celebrates the creative talents of our young people.
Miami, one of our Year 8 students, performed an amazing solo of the Foo Fighters song, “Times Like These” supported by a group of young people from all across North Hertfordshire, whilst playing the Ukele. In this group were two former Valley School students, Yasmin and Dan.
Miami made us so proud; she performed with confidence and sang beautifully. She should be commended for all her efforts and was an amazing ambassador for the school. Well done Miami.
Just before we broke up for half term, Year 10 had a fantastic day researching an assault course as part of their Enterprise lessons. It was amazing to see the students’ resilience and courage as they attempted each of the obstacles. They worked as a real team to support each other when things were tricky and didn’t seem to mind getting wet. In fact many of them came back for more…..!
On Wednesday 6th December we ran a trip to The Gordon Craig Theatre, Stevenage to see their production of Sleeping Beauty. The students had a wonderful time, thoroughly enjoying the performance.
On Thursday 16th November we held our Prizes and Awards Afternoon to celebrate the achievements of our young people during the academic year of 2022-2023.
Daniel Sweeney (Centre Back) and Harry Anderson (Right Wing) supported us from Stevenage Football Club, as our guests of honour.
We would also like to extend our thanks to ASHE and MACE who sponsored some of our trophies.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and we are looking forward to holding the next one in our new build.
We will inform you on how you can access the photos of your child over the next few days.
